Nylon and polyester fabric are both lightweight and durable synthetic fabrics. They have many of the same characteristics, such as ease of care, wrinkle resistance, stretch resistance and shrinkage resistance. Nylon is softer but stronger than polyester, while polyester dries faster, is easier to dye and wears. Neither is a better fabric, although each fabric has unique superior properties and can be used for certain purposes.Nylon was created as a substitute for silk, which explains its soft and silky feel. It is also brighter and more elastic than polyester.
Polyester is usually a coarser, darker fabric. However, modern manufacturing practices have improved the feel of polyester. You can now find polyester that mimics the softness of cotton and doesn't feel close to nylon.
Durability:
Nylon is extremely strong, abrasion-resistant, oil-resistant and damages from many chemicals. Polyester fiber is strong, resistant to stretching and shrinking, resistant to most chemicals, brittle and elastic for wet and dry purposes, and abrasion resistant.
Production:
Nylon is produced in liquid form, mechanically spun and dried into individual fibers.
Polyester fibers are spun into threads from chemical solutions.
Recyclability:
Recycled nylon
Nylon is more difficult to recycle than polyester. Recycling nylon is expensive and resource intensive. Until recently, recycled nylon fabrics were rare.
Recycled nylon is usually made from pre-consumer recycled materials. Pre-consumption means that recycled nylon is made from factory waste, not the garbage you put in the recycling bin.
Recycled polyester
Polyester is easy to recycle and highly efficient. Recycled polyester can be made from water bottles such as post-consumer recycled materials. Therefore, there is a strong infrastructure to turn waste into high-quality, high-performance fabrics for bags, shoes, and clothing. Recycled polyester is not yet widespread, but it is becoming the standard for apparel and luggage companies seeking to reduce their environmental footprint.
The use of recycled polyester helps us limit our dependence on crude oil, reduce waste in landfills, and reduce toxic emissions during waste disposal.
Sun protection:
It is said that nylon fades very quickly, especially if you use the wrong dye product on the material. This fabric does not seem to be able to maintain the color, and its UV resistance is not very good.
On the other hand, polyester has first-class UV resistance and can maintain color well. Although it is difficult to dye, once dyed, the fabric should not fade quickly. All fabrics will fade eventually, but nylon fades faster than most fabrics.
If you want to spend a lot of time in the sun, or like to dry your clothes in warm sunlight, please don't wear or hang nylon. The sun can remove colors very effectively.
When using a nylon tent, it is best to place it under the cover of trees or bushes, so that your tent can maintain its original color and brilliance for a longer time.
